Sighisoara Citadel

Sighisoara represented for centuries a military stronghold and during the 14th - 16th centuries, the Saxon craft guilds erected towers around the citadel walls in order to protect the town from Turkish raids. The towers had firing windows for cannons, shells and arrows and were ment to store food supplies and ammunnition. Intitially there were 14 towers and 5 bastions but nowadays there are still standing just 9 towers and 2 bastions.

You can admire along the citadel the Blacksmiths' Tower, Tailors' Tower,  Butchers' Tower, Furriers' Tower, Ropemakers' Tower, Cobblers' Tower,  Tanners' Tower, Tinsmiths' Tower and the  famous Clock Tower.
