   The Hiking in Transylvania 2025 is an 8-day guided hiking tour through the stunning landscapes of Transylvania. You'll explore the Carpathian Mountains, visit picturesque villages, and hike through scenic valleys, peaks, and gorges. Highlights include visits to Brașov, Sibiu, Piatra Craiului, and Bucegi Mountains, with a mix of easy to medium hiking trails. Enjoy traditional Romanian culture, local cuisine, and breathtaking natural views. The tour is designed for nature lovers and adventure seekers, offering a perfect blend of outdoor activities and relaxation.

Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Romania – Bucharest Airport to Brașov: after gathering your luggage, proceed to the Direct Aeroport station where you'll board your shared transfer. The journey to Brașov will take approximately 3 hours, so sit back and relax as you enjoy scenic views of Romania's countryside and the Carpathian Mountains.

Day 2 Day 2: Brașov – Făgăraș Mountains – Rășinari

Morning: Guided City Tour of Brașov: Black Church (Biserica Neagră): Start your day by visiting the largest Gothic church in Romania, located in the heart of Brașov. The Black Church is known for its stunning architecture and rich history, including its collection of Oriental carpets.Strada Sforii (String Street): Walk along one of the narrowest streets in Europe, which used to be a passage for firefighters, and admire the quaint buildings and alleyways. Catherine’s Gate (Poarta Ecaterinei): Visit the well-preserved medieval gateway, one of the original entrances to the old town. It offers great photo opportunities and a taste of Brașov's history as an important commercial hub.

Midday Hike to Balea Glacial Lake: travel to the Făgăraș Mountains you’ll board your vehicle and head toward the Făgăraș Mountains, the highest range of the Southern Carpathians. The hike to Balea Lake (elevation 2,033 meters) will take about 2-3 hours and offers incredible panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As you walk through alpine meadows and past dramatic cliffs, the landscape becomes more and more breathtaking.

Picnic Break at Balea Waterfall: Take a break at the Balea Waterfall, a picturesque spot where you can enjoy a relaxing picnic amidst the soothing sounds of the cascading water.

 Afternoon Traditional Dinner at Badiu Guest House: Continue to Rășinari: After your hike, you’ll continue your journey to Rășinari, a picturesque village located in the Sibiu region, where the tradition and culture of the region are still very much alive .Arrive at the Badiu Guest House, where you will be treated to a traditional Romanian dinner. The meal will likely feature local specialties such as ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) or tocăniță (a hearty stew), and you’ll enjoy the warmth of a cozy Romanian hospitality. End the evening with a glass of Romanian schnapps (Tuica), a homemade spirit made from plums or pears, often served as a welcoming drink in rural Romania.

Day 3: Păltiniș – Oncești Peak – Surdu Peak

Morning Visit to Păltiniș:

   After breakfast, head to Păltiniș, the highest climatic spa in Romania, located at an altitude of about 1,440 meters. Păltiniș is known for its fresh mountain air, clean surroundings, and beautiful alpine scenery. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the area before beginning your hike. After visiting Păltiniș, take a 25 km drive to reach the starting point of your hike, which is located at an altitude of 1,400 meters. The hike begins along a pleasant forest road that will take you to Oncești Peak at an altitude of 1,713 meters. This part of the hike is comfortable and relatively easy, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Continue through the dense forest along a well-marked hiking trail. As you make your way through the trees, the trail will gradually lead you to the Surdu Peak, standing at 1,970 meters. Here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Carpathian Mountains, alpine meadows, and the valleys below .After reaching Surdu Peak, cross an alpine hayfield, a serene spot where you can enjoy the quiet beauty of the highlands before continuing back on your path.

Afternoon Relaxation in Păltiniș:the return trail is relatively easy and takes you back to your starting point in Păltiniș. This hike will take approximately 5-6 hours in total, with breaks for photos and to enjoy the landscape. After the hike, return to Păltiniș for a well-deserved rest. Spend time relaxing in the garden of Mr. Badiu, where you can unwind with a drink, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take in the peaceful atmosphere of this charming village.

 Hiking trail of 16 km, start-height: 1.400 m alt., highest point: Surdu Peak 1.970 m alt., height difference: 570 m alt., easy to medium difficult hiking trail.

Day 4: Rășinari – Prislop Village – Măgura Peak – Cisnădioara

Morning:Hike from Rășinari to Prislop Village: Start your day with an easy hike from Rășinari, a charming village, through the Roma village of Prislop. The path will lead you gradually up to the Rosegarden at an altitude of 1,000 meters, offering beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. This section of the hike is relatively easy, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful rural landscape.

   Optional Climb to Măgura Cisnădiei Peak (1,304 meters): For those feeling more adventurous, an optional detour will take you up to Măgura Cisnădiei Peak, situated at 1,304 meters. This peak offers stunning views of the Sadu Valley and the surrounding Transylvanian Highlands, making it a great spot for photos and a moment to take in the breathtaking scenery.

    Afternoon: Descent Through Silvercreek Valley: after enjoying the views from Măgura Cisnădiei (or from the Rosegarden if you choose not to climb the peak), continue your hike down through Silvercreek Valley. This peaceful valley offers a quiet atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings as you make your way toward Cisnădioara. Visit the 13th-Century Fortified Church in Cisnădioara: Upon arriving in Cisnădioara, visit the 13th-century fortified church, a significant historical and architectural site. The church sits on a hill with great views of the valley, and it’s an excellent opportunity to learn more about the region’s medieval heritage.

  Hiking trail of 18 km, start-height: 500 m alt., highest point: 1.304 m alt. (Magura Peak) or 1.050 m alt. (Rosegarden), height difference: 600 m alt. Or 800 m alt., easy to medium difficult hiking trail.

 Day 5: Sibiu – Bran – Măgura

Morning: City Tour of Sibiu: start your day by exploring Sibiu, a charming city that was named the European Capital of Culture in 2007. Enjoy a guided tour through the historic city center, visiting key landmarks Bridge of Lies, Great Square (Piața Mare), Protestant Parish Church

Afternoon Dracula Castle (Bran Castle): after the tour, you will travel to Bran, which is approximately 187 km (about 2-3 hours) from Sibiu. Here, you’ll visit the world-famous Dracula Castle (Bran Castle), known for its connection to the Dracula legend. Explore the castle's fascinating rooms, learn about its history, and take in the magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.

Hike to Măgura Guest House: After your visit to Bran Castle, you will embark on a hike to the Măgura Guest House in the village of Măgura, located at an altitude of 1,100 meters. The hike will take you through picturesque landscapes, with stunning views of the Bucegi Mountains and Piatra Craiului. The path is relatively easy, offering a great opportunity to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the countryside.

Dinner and Overnight at Măgura Guest House : after reaching the guest house, enjoy a hearty traditional Romanian dinner and unwind in the tranquil environment. The guest house offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing evening.


Day 6: Măgura – Petrului Peak – Zărnești Gorge

Morning: Easy Hike from Măgura Village: after a relaxing morning, embark on an easy hiking trail from the village of Măgura. The path will take you through picturesque landscapes, passing along charming dairies where you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of rural Romania. The hike will lead you to Petrului Peak, situated at an altitude of 1,452 meters. From here, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, known for their jagged peaks and dramatic landscapes. If you’re lucky, you may encounter wildlife, as this area is home to bears, lynxes, and mountain goats, making the hike even more special.

 Lunch Break at the Peak: Once at the summit, take a well-deserved lunch break and enjoy the breathtaking scenery around you. It's the perfect spot to relax and recharge for the next part of the hike.

Afternoon: Descent to Zărnești Gorge: your break, descend to the Zărnești Gorge, a beautiful natural formation with stunning rock formations and lush vegetation. The gorge is a serene and scenic spot, providing a peaceful atmosphere for the final leg of your hike. The final stretch of the hike will take you uphill back to the Măgura Guest House, where you can rest and relax after a rewarding day of exploration.

Hiking trail of 15 km, start-height: 950 m alt., highest point: Petrului Peak 1.452 m alt., height difference: 500 m alt., easy hiking trail.

Overnight at Măgura Guest House

Day 7: Măgura – Curmătura Cottage – Piatra Craiului Mica

Morning: Hike from Măgura Guest House: begin the day by hiking from the guest house and descending to the Zărnești Gorge. This section is familiar from the previous day’s hike. The path takes you through scenic landscapes, heading towards the gorge before you begin the uphill ascent. Continue your hike uphill to the Curmătura Cottage, located at 1,470 meters. Once at the cottage, you’ll stop for a well-earned lunch break, where hikers can enjoy freshly prepared soups that are a specialty of the area.

Optional: Climb to Piatra Craiului Mica (1,816 meters): After lunch, you can choose to continue the hike to Piatra Craiului Mica, which stands at 1,816 meters. This section is more challenging, with climbing sections along the way. The route is vertigo-inducing, so it’s important to be comfortable with heights. The views from the peak are breathtaking, and it’s a great choice for those looking for a more challenging and rewarding hike.Stay at Curmătura Cottage: For those who prefer a more relaxed hike, you can stay at the Curmătura Cottage and enjoy the surroundings at the same altitude. This option offers a more peaceful experience with plenty of natural beauty.

Afternoon Farewell Dinner in Brașov:after your hike (or relaxing stay at the cottage), you will drive back to Brașov for the evening .Enjoy a farewell dinner in Brașov, where you can reflect on the memorable experiences and hikes of the past days.

Hiking trail of 16 km, start-height: 1.100 m alt. at the Mosorel guest house, descent to the ravine up to 850 m alt., ascent to the Curmatura Cottage at 1470 m alt.

Day 8: Brașov – Bucharest Airport

Breakfast in the hotel.
Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
