Hiking on the Via Transilvanica in TERRA SICULORUM
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Sibiu
Flight to Sibiu (SBZ), where you will be greeted by your tour assistant.
A city tour of Sibiu will follow.
In the late afternoon, transfer to the small village of Praid. Visit the famous salt mine in Praid.
Dinner and overnight stay in Praid for 1 night.

Day 2: Hike: Praid – Atia (16 km / 5 hrs. / 692 m ascent)
After breakfast, you will start the medium-difficulty hike in the land of the Szeklers.
As there are no water sources along today’s route, please make sure to bring enough water. There are two more challenging ascents: the first one is longer, the second is shorter but steeper.
After reaching a vantage point over the Szeklerland, you will descend into the village of Atia and visit the Hungarian village.
Dinner and overnight stay in Atia for 1 night.

Day 3: Hike: Atia – Lupeni (24 km / 8 hrs. / 550 m ascent)
After breakfast, you will pack your lunch for the day.
Today’s hike is longer but well-marked, passing through small villages with charming houses, Szekler gates, and centuries-old homes. The trail connects villages via asphalt, uphill roads, or forest paths.
Your large luggage will be transferred for you to the guesthouse in Lupeni, as on the previous day.
In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Lupeni.

Day 4: Hike: Lupeni – Odorheiul Secuiesc (24 km / 8 hrs. / 743 m ascent)
After breakfast, you will pack your lunch.
Today’s route is medium-difficulty and well-marked, with little asphalt, and takes you through traditional Szekler villages and surrounding hills and forests.
The route also leads to the "Heart of Jesus" statue, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
You will pass through Dealu, a village known for its Palinka Festival (a traditional schnapps festival), and continue through hills and other villages until you reach Odorheiul Secuiesc.
Dinner and overnight stay in Odorheiul Secuiesc for 1 night.

Day 5: Hike: Odorheiul Secuiesc – Martiniș (19 km / 6.5 hrs. / 483 m ascent)
In the morning, you will visit the city center of Odorheiul Secuiesc.
As the route has not passed through a town for a while, this is a good opportunity to complete your wardrobe, repair your backpack, or replace worn-out hiking shoes.
The hike continues through hills above the city, with meadows featuring sheepfolds, forests with dense shade, traditional villages, and wild cherry trees lining the roads.
In the afternoon, you will arrive in Martiniș.
Dinner and overnight stay in Martiniș for 1 night.

Day 6: Hike: Martiniș – Dârjiu (30 km / 9 hrs. / 641 m ascent)
After breakfast, you will pack your lunch.
Today’s hike is longer, with a medium difficulty level. The trail passes through fields, forests, gravel roads, and some asphalt, reaching the villages of Rareș, Sânpaul, Daia, Iașu, and Ulieș, with the final destination being Dârjiu.
In Dârjiu, you can admire the architecture of the Szekler churches and houses that have been influenced by Saxon design.
Dinner and overnight stay in Dârjiu for 1 night.

Day 7: Hike: Dârjiu – Archita (16 km / 5 hrs. / 464 m ascent) + Transfer to Sighisoara
After a leisurely breakfast, you will visit the fortified church in Dârjiu (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
The final part of the hike is easier, passing through fields, forests, gravel roads, and some asphalt, reaching the village of Mujna and then the destination Archita.
In Archita, you can admire the architecture of the fortified church and the Saxon houses.
In the afternoon, transfer to Sighisoara.
Optional: After a break, join a guided tour to explore the romantic citadel (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with its guild towers, churches, colorful houses, and cobblestone streets.
Free time in Sighisoara.
Dinner and overnight stay in Sighisoara for 1 night.

Day 8: Return
After breakfast, transfer to Sibiu Airport, depending on your return flight time.
