8 Days Trekking Tour - Reaching the highest peaks in Romania: Moldoveanu Peak (2544 m) & Negoiu Peak (2535 m)
The Fagaras Mountains (Munții Făgăraș) have been one of the best known and most popular Romanian hiking areas since the end of the 19th century. The Fagaras Mountains are the highest in the Romanian Carpathians: the Moldoveanu peak measures 2544 m. The over 50 km long main ridge can be praised with a total of eight peaks over 2500 m high. At the same time, there are more than 50 glacial lakes, of which the Balea Lake / Lacul Bâlea is the largest with around 4.6 ha. Today you can get to it very easily on the Transfăgărășan high road, which was built in the 1970s, and although the Transylvanian north side of the Carpathian Mountains has steeper valleys than the Wallachian south side, it has long been more accessible for tourists. However, several new hiking trails have been marked on the south side in recent years.
